Steve grew up in Maui, Hawaii where he got his start as a painter. He moved to the mainland to attend California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland where he received his Bachelors of Fine Arts in Glass in 2004. While at CCAC, Steve worked closely with faculty and fellow students in the painting, glass, sculpture, and jewelry departments. Steve has blown glass in studios all over the Bay Area, and has demoed at Massachusetts College of Art and Design, San Francisco State University, and Public Glass. He has also worked with Bay Area glass blowers Bruce Pizzichillo and Lisa Aronson. In 2006, Steve started Liquid Fire Design, a glass business specializing in hand blown glass lighting fixtures and commissioned glass pieces.
In 2014 Steve opened his own studio in Oakland. Located in the historic Sunshine Biscuits building near the Oakland Coliseum, this new 3750 square foot facility features a hot shop, cold shop, and metal fabrication. This new facility allows Liquid Fire Design to produce hand blown glass efficiently and at a scale affordable for U.S. hospitality and custom interior glass lighting and design manufacturing.
